Myth 1
“ADHD isn’t real.”
Kitchen-table story
Imagine spending years arguing about whether the smoke alarm is real while smoke keeps filling the kitchen.
At some point, the better question isn’t: “Do I believe in smoke alarms?”
It’s: “What is this alarm trying to tell me?”
Here’s what’s really happening
ADHD is real.
But knowing those four letters doesn’t automatically mean we understand what ADHD looks like in everyday family life.
Why should I care?
If we are still fighting over whether ADHD exists, we may never reach the questions that could actually help our child.
Old belief
“Is ADHD even real?”
New understanding
“What do I understand about ADHD—and what might I still have wrong?”
“Hmm. Maybe there’s more to this than I thought.”
