Our Story

They Saw His Struggles. I Saw His Brilliance.

The Evaluation

When my son Kaleb was eight years old, he was evaluated for ADD, ADHD and special-education services. I was told that he had difficulty sustaining attention beyond 30 minutes.

But that explanation did not match the child I saw at home.

The Disconnect I Couldn’t Ignore

I watched my bright, creative son spend four hours at a time building intricate LEGO designs without asking for a break. His hands were creating, his mind was solving problems and his imagination was fully alive.

That was the moment I realized there was a disconnect.

My son did not lack intelligence, curiosity or potential. We simply did not yet understand that his brain was wired brilliantly and beautifully—and that his attention came alive through creativity, challenge and purpose.

What I Did Next

I stopped asking, “What is wrong with him?” and started asking, “What makes his brilliance come alive?”

I placed him in every science, technology, engineering and mathematics opportunity I could find. I surrounded him with experiences that allowed him to build, design, experiment, lead and discover what was already living inside him.

What Happened When His Gifts Were Supported

And my son began to flourish.

The child once viewed primarily through the lens of his challenges rose to the head of his class and became Science Student of the Year.

Today, at 16, Kaleb still loves building with LEGOs. He creates 3D designs, competes on a drone team, excels as one of the top students in Army JROTC and recently helped his team become runner-up in our county’s Shark Tank competition.

None of this means we should ignore professional guidance. Evaluations can help us identify where a child needs support. But no test, diagnosis, classroom struggle or professional opinion should be allowed to determine the boundaries of a child’s destiny.

Testing may identify a need.

It cannot measure brilliance.

It cannot calculate purpose.

And it cannot predict what can happen when a child’s gifts are recognized, supported and given room to grow.

Why Black ADHD Truth Exists

That is why Black ADHD Truth exists.

Too many Black children are being defined by their most difficult moments. Too many are being disciplined before they are understood, labeled before they are supported and counted out before anyone discovers what makes their minds come alive.

We cannot afford to wait until another brilliant child begins believing that they are lazy, difficult, broken or destined to fail.

We must see them now.

We must understand them now.

We must support them now.

My Declaration Over Black Boys

As long as there is breath in my body, I will shout it from the rooftops:

Black boys are brilliant.
Black boys are gifted.
Black boys are filled with purpose and possibility.
Black boys are born to succeed—not fail.

Who am I? A guru? Nope.

Do I have a PhD? Nope.

I’m a mom who knew there was more to my son than what the tests, struggles and labels could see.

So I kept asking questions, searching for answers and fighting to unlock his hidden, brilliant potential.

I am a Mom on a Mission ❤️

I’m committed to sharing the truth about ADHD in the Black family through three unique perspectives:

Neuroscience-informed.

Kingdom identity-centered.

Culturally relevant.

We don’t create fancy brochures.

We create breakthroughs—one family at a time.
